About Oceanus Motel

A Family Legacy Since 1971

Long before Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, became the summer hot spot it is today, local pharmacist Bob Moore had the idea to open a business that let him work directly with people. In 1971, he and his wife, Dee, opened The Oceanus, a 38-room motel, just two blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, which some thought was too far. More than 55 years later, the location is one of the property’s best features.

The Moores believed visitors would appreciate a clean, welcoming place to stay close to the ocean, and that belief, paired with a commitment to hard work, genuine hospitality, and treating people like family, became the foundation of The Oceanus. It’s the same mindset their sons, Todd, JB, and Chad, carry forward today as the motel’s owners.

Three Brothers, One Philosophy

Todd, JB, and Chad Moore grew up in the family business, helping build it from the ground up. They did it all, from folding linens and working the front desk to lifeguarding and managing the parking lot.

“Treat others the way you want to be treated,” says JB Moore, co-owner of The Oceanus. “That’s a philosophy that’s kept staff here for decades, and guests coming back like family.” Some employees have been working at the hotel for over 20 years. Many guests return generation after generation.

Sustainable & Built to Last

The Oceanus has changed with the times, without losing what made it special. Years of thoughtful renovations have kept the property comfortable and up to date, and sustainability has become part of that same commitment. The addition of 180 solar panels has reduced the hotel’s reliance on non-renewable energy, generating over 61,600 kWh of clean energy each year and lowering the property’s carbon footprint for guests, staff, and the Rehoboth Beach, Delaware community.
